Protesters united under the sobriquet of "Gilets Jaunes" (Yellow Vests) have demonstrated across France every weekend since November 17, 2018. Originally triggered by a proposed (and since-rescinded) gas tax, the protests have become a more amorphous rebuke of Macron's government and wealth disparity throughout French society.
