Portraits of refugees camped at Idomeni, Greece and the things that they had brought with them from home. In some cases, these were specific items that they cherished; in other cases, they were simply the items that were left after the rest of their possessions were lost or abandoned en route, photographed forABC News.

Alhinde brought with him his house keys, despite the fact that his house was destroyed by a bomb, injuring his arm severely. On the keychain are football shoes and a emblem expressing support for Palestine. Additionally, he brough pain medication for his injuries, a ring from his mother and a ring from his girlfriend, a lighter and a pair of socks to protect against the cold.

Ahmad, who worked as a computer engineer in Syria, brought her wedding ring and a flash drive full of photos secured in a balloon to protect it from the elements and sea. With her 18 month-old daughter she is trying to reach Germany where her husband has been for a year and a half. "I have stopped counting the days" she said in reference to how long she'd been in the camp.

Alwared, a Christian, brought several cruficifixes with her, as well as a prayer rope she acquired in Lebanon, and she uses them in her daily prayer. These items were photographed on the flap of the small tent where Alwared lives like many of the other refugees at Idomeni.

Talbawi, who comes from Baghdad, Iraq; has only his telephone, after the rest of his belongings were lost in the sea crossing from Turkey.

"I cannot live without it," Al-Ajami said of her narghile, or water pipe, which is the only thing she brought with her from home.

Fadel is from Al Hajar Al Aswad near Damascus, and brought a phone and two rings with him when he left home. The ring on the left was given to him by a girl, while the ring at center was given to him by a friend. The phone, purchased in 2009, is the oldest thing he owns.

Sakizada brought two rings with him from home, which he has had for so long that he can no longer remove them from his fingers.

Abd Al-Aziz brought Syrian Pounds (1000 are worth about $4.50) and misbahah prayer beads with him from home.

Touma brought a ring that was given to him by a friend who was killed in the war, a necklace from a friend who is a student in Damascus, and two bracelets for his sisters.

Alhalawani brought a bracelet that was given to him by his mother, a ring that was a birthday gift from his father, and his brother's watch with him from home. All three family members, along with another brother, were killed when their house was bombed nine months ago. Alhalawani, a businessman who has three daughters in Binghamton, New York, is traveling without papers after his passport was confiscated by the Syrian government.
Yazan Zarzour, 24, of Damascus, declined to be photographed due to personal beliefs at a refugee camp on the Macedonian (FYROM) border on March 11, 2016 in Idomeni, Greece.
Zarzour managed to bring his guitar and a small amplifier with him, despite losing most of his other possessions when his bag was stolen by smugglers on his second (of three) attempts to reach Greece. "I wanted to learn and play music since I heard the guitar - it was Led Zeppelin, actually,' he explained.

Souleman lost all his belongings besides his clothes on the sea voyage from Turkey.
